ACDI/VOCA is an economic development organization that fosters broad-based economic growth, raises living standards, and creates vibrant communities. Based in Washington, D.C., ACDI/VOCA has worked in 146 countries since 1963. Its practice areas are agribusiness, food security, enterprise development, financial services, and community development. ACDI / VOCA began its activity, helping to develop the co-operative enterprises. Since then, the organization maintains its focus on public outreach. Continuing to work directly with members of the public in order to increase incomes and improve food security, it is also engaged in the development and implementation of multidisciplinary projects for economic development, characterized by significant scale and high level of complexity. ACDI / VOCA advises managers, helping them to move towards a market economy and democracy, and enables organizations, whether enterprises, financial institutions, cooperatives or associations to manage their own activities and funding.
ACDI / VOCA offers complete solutions to the most pressing and intractable problems. The focus of the organization is the whole spectrum of development, from meeting basic needs to ensure the existence of a stable society, including food security and food commodities, poverty reduction, access to financial services and market integration.
ACDI / VOCA strives to solve the problems not in isolation, but sees them in the context of the five key areas of business:
- local infrastructure development;
- development of entrepreneurship;
- financial services;
- food security
In all its activities ACDI / VOCA seeks to ensure the integration of the views and interests of women, youth, indigenous minorities and other groups who are unable to take an active part in society. Using a variety of methods of work, the organization provides people with the knowledge, capacity and alternatives to enable them to improve the quality of life.
